Assam VFA Admission 2025: One-Year Veterinary Training Opens for Science Students

The Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Assam, has officially announced the commencement of admissions for the one-year Veterinary Field Assistant (VFA) Training Course in Elementary Knowledge of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science for the academic session 2024–2025. This highly sought-after course will be conducted at the School of Veterinary Sciences & A.H., Ghungoor, Silchar, and its extended campuses across the state.

Students interested in veterinary sciences and rural animal care careers can now apply online until 13th July 2025. A total of 200 seats are up for grabs, and notably, there is no application fee for any category of applicants, making it a golden opportunity for eligible Assamese youth.

Course Overview and Seat Distribution

The Veterinary Field Assistant course spans one academic year and offers a foundational understanding of animal husbandry and veterinary science. Out of the 200 total available seats, 102 seats are reserved for General category candidates. The Other Backward Classes (OBC/MOBC) category has the largest reserved share with 73 seats, followed by 10 seats each for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Scheduled Tribes (Plains – STP).** Scheduled Castes (SC) are allocated 5 seats**, while Scheduled Tribes (Hills – STH) have no reserved seat this year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Assam VFA Admission 2025, the applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam, which must be supported by a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or proof of application for PRC submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The minimum educational requirement is HSSLC (Class 12) in Science stream with Biology as a mandatory subject, from a recognized board or university.

Regarding age, candidates must be between 18 to 30 years as of 1st January 2025. However, age relaxations apply to certain categories: OBC and MOBC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years, while SC, ST (Plains), and ST (Hills) candidates can avail a relaxation of 5 years on the upper age limit.

Application Process – No Fee Required

The application process for VFA Training Course 2025 is entirely online and began on 14th June 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the official admission portal by completing the registration, entering personal and educational details, and uploading required documents including a passport-size photo, scanned signature, mark sheets of HSLC and HSSLC, PRC, caste/EWS certificate, and if applicable, a DDO certificate for serving Grade-IV employees. Once submitted, candidates should take a printout of the application for reference.

No Application Fee

In a welcoming move, the government has waived off the application fee for all categories, including General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS, ensuring wider accessibility for deserving students from all economic backgrounds.
